Abstract Julia Setter

german version

The doctoral thesis project pursues the question of imagined generational communities in a business organisation. It analyses the narratively constructed ascription of generational belonging, which is based on specific experiences of different birth cohorts and cohorts of company membership. These experiences can be shaped by internal breaks, technical innovations or generally age-related circumstances in the life course.

The empirical example of this ethnographic study is a long-established German company in the optical industry, in which everyday working life is influenced by its tradition and structural changes to meet modern business requirements in changing markets.
