This PhD project deals with the role of clothing in female generational relationships. It concentrates on mothers and daughters and will explore the meaning of style in its specific configuration as expression of membership of cultural and familial generations. The negotiation process on style will be focused.
A threefold approach will be applied: First of all activities and experiences concerning clothing and fashion have to be identified from a biographical perspective and then be related to generational membership. Secondly intergenerational transfer will be taken into account. Last but not least matters of conflict between the women have to be explored.
