Abstract Sehra Duran

german version

In the field of educational science the investigation of educational processes within the family has been established as an important subject. Based on an understanding of family as the primary instance of socialization, this research project is going to investigate the transmission of values and norms, knowledge, attitudes and behavioral dispositions with regard to the content and mode of the transmission processes within the family. Generational relationships will feature as a special focus of this work, because social life is heavily dependent on the relationships that people form and engage in and ultimately are influenced by. Therefore, the first relational experiences usually happen within the family but can be considered as relevant formative elements for an entire lifespan. Islamic education as well as intra-familial transmission processes within families with a so-called migration background is currently not adequately considered in contemporary Social Sciences. Especially the correlation between generational relationships and Islamic education proves to be significant. A special focus on the interdependency between family climate and family interaction should be considered; such as the relationship of spouses, the parent-child relationship, as well as the social, cultural and the socioeconomic conditions within the family. Of primary research interest is the question, to what extent migration and the transmission of religiousness influences the processes of familial education and generational relationships. The research objective is based on the fact that Islamic education and the associated familial transmission processes have not been considered in current research and thus the influence of this kind of education as a formative factor of the generational relationships could not yet have been established. The study will incorporate several generations of a family into a survey in order to investigate the influence of religious concepts of education in the relationships of single family members. This research project can certainly be understood as an extension to the approach of current social sciences while hoping to offer a new level of interpretation.
